This session introduces Raspberry Pi as a low-cost technical infrastructure for supporting Wikipedia in education and community learning.

The event focuses on how Raspberry Pi can be used to host offline and local MediaWiki environments, enabling access to Wikimedia content in low- or no-connectivity contexts.

The session will also cover practical implementations such as Internet-in-a-Box and PiWikiSpot, demonstrating how a Raspberry Pi can create a local Wi-Fi hotspot to serve educational content and a localized MediaWiki instance for collaborative learning.

Participants will learn:

  • How Raspberry Pi can support Wikimedia education programmes

  • Basics of offline wiki and local server deployments

  • Educational use cases for MediaWiki in classrooms and outreach

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of Raspberry Pi in Wikimedia education initiatives

  2. Identify offline-first learning models using local wiki infrastructure

  3. Explore ways to integrate hardware tools into education and outreach activities
